Frederick Blue @BootlegBishop
The 2021 NFL Draft is less than two weeks away and as teams gear up to make their first round selections, the focus is on the initial ten picks. The consensus is that it will be quarterback heavy, with as many as five QBs picked within the top 10-12 selections, which will push some skilled offensive players top DBs and defensive/offensive lineman to teams amongst the first 15 picks. No trades in this mock, just some references to potential moves up/down by some teams. Here is my initial take on where the draft may go:
1. Jacksonville Jaguars- Trevor Lawrence, Clemson: Urban Meyer gets his man in what is the worst kept secret leading up to the draft
2. New York Jets- Zach Wilson, BYU: Jets traded away Sam Darnold to the Panthers for 3 picks over the next two drafts. They are clearly infatuated with the arm talent and athleticism of Wilson. Jets banking that his trajectory meets or exceeds that of Josh Allen
3. San Francisco- Mac Jones, Alabama: Too much smoke around this pick for the 49ers although this is way too high for Jones after just one year of work. Watching the tape, had the most impressive production of all the top QBs in this draft and won the national championship to boot
4. Atlanta Falcons- Justin Fields, Ohio State: I think the Atlanta Falcons are beginning to realize they need an heir apparent to Matt Ryan, although the appeal of Kyle Pitts is tempting.
5. Cincinnati Bengals- Penei Sewell, Oregon: Please get Mr. Burrow some protection coming off an ACL tear suffered in his impressive rookie season. Sewell is flat out nasty and will be able to impose his will against edge rushers. Will be strong in the run protection as well
6. Miami Dolphins- Jamar Chase, LSU: Miami down and then up in the draft to grab a playmaker for Tua (o-line help would be smart as well) and Chase is the best WR is this draft. Good route runner and nice blend of speed and physicality
7. Detroit Lions- Devonte Smith, Alabama: After losing Kenny Golladay in free agency, Lions snatch up the Heisman Trophy winner
8. Carolina Panthers- Kyle Pitts, Florida: May be the best player in this draft and wherever you line him up (on the line, slot or outside), he will be a matchup nightmare for defenses. Would not be surprised if the Panther trade back for more picks to a QB needy team
9. Denver Broncos- Trey Lance, North Dakota State: Drew Locke is your starting QB. Need I say more?
10. Dallas Cowboys- Patrick Surtain, Alabama: No brainer pick here. Dallas gets the best QB in the draft
11. New York Giants- Micah Parsons, Penn State: Giants had a top-10 defense this past season. A player like Parsons at the LB position could catapult them into the top 5
12. Philadelphia Eagles-Jaylen Waddle, Alabama: Eagles could go corner here (Horn), but the speed and playmaking ability is too much to pass up. Could be a Tyreek Hill like weapon within new coach Nick Siriani’s offense. Would not surprise me if the Birds move back into top ten
13. San Diego Chargers- Jaycee Horn, South Carolina: 2nd best CB in the draft goes off the board to the Bolts
14. Minnesota Vikings- Rashawn Slater, Northwestern: Vikings get a real road grader here and the next best offensive lineman on the big board
15. New England- Kwity Payne, Michigan: No, Belichick does not get his QB of the future, but he does come away with a strong edge rushing presence along that Patriot d-line
16. Arizona Cardinals- Christian Darrisaw, Virginia Tech: At some point, you have to protect your franchise QB. Good pick here for the Cardinals
17. Las Vegas Raiders- Alijah Vera-Tucker, USC: Gruden gets some reinforcements on the LB front
18. Miami Dolphins- Jeremiah Owusah-Koramoah, Notre Dame: Dolphins decide to go with the Notre Dame standout and will seek o-line help on Day 2.
19. Washington Football Team- Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech: WFT could move up in the draft to try and nab a QB, but they stay put and take a flyer on Farley. Great value here in the event his back holds up. Got positive reports from NFL team doctors
20. Chicago Bears- Gregory Rousseau, Miami: Great edge rusher who should benefit greatly from the presence of Mack
21. Indianapolis Colts- Rashod Bateman, Minnesota: May be a little early here for Bateman, but would be a nice weapon for Mr. Wentz’s redemption tour
22. Tennessee Titans- Jaelan Phillips, Miami: Second Hurricane DE to be selected in the first round.
23. New York Jets- Azeez Oljulari, Georgia: Offense, Defense with their 2 first round picks. Joe Douglas is still smiling
24. Pittsburgh Steelers- Najee Harris, Alabama: Instant upgrade in the running department for the Steelers. Get back to a physical, grinding approach that will serve them well in the 4th quarter
25. Jacksonville Jaguars- Tevin Jenkins, Oklahoma State: Help for Mr. Lawrence is on the menu
26. Cleveland Browns- Christian Barmore, Alabama: He may go earlier as a late riser, but Browns should snatch him up if he falls here. Invest in the trenches!
27. Baltimore Ravens- Greg Newsome II, Northwestern: Would be a great pickup for the Ravens and as we have seen consistently in the past, it’s all about the defense
28. New Orleans Saints- Kadarius Toney, Florida: Whether its Hill or Winston, a weapon with the skills and confidence of Toney paired with Thomas could eases the transition from Brees
29. Green Bay Packers- Zaven Collins, Tulsa: Pack would have loved Toney to fall here for Rodgers, but settle for Collins and provide a stud linebacker to the defensive core
30. Buffalo Bills- Trevon Moehrig-Woodard, TCU: Bills strengthen their defense even more with this talented safety and add to an already impressive secondary
31. Kansas City Chiefs- Samuel Cosmi, Texas: Makes sense in light of salary cap decisions made this offseason highlighted by the departure of Eric Fisher
32. Tampa Bay Bucaneers- Travis Etienne, Clemson: Bucs re-signed Fournette and brought in Giovanni Benard, but neither is a long-term answer. With the pending free agency of Ronald Jones, the Etienne selection would be them upgraded talent and stability at the position.
