Sam Darnold's return results in the Jets getting their first win against the Cowboys

Kevin Lidlow

New York Jets had gotten back their franchise quarterback just when all hope seemed lost, and the results were even better than expected. The Jets came away with their first win of the season after defeating the Cowboys 24-22, Jamal Adams came up with a crucial play that kept the Cowboys from converting a two point conversion. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams dialed up a blitz that sent Adams right into the A gap that forced Prescott to throw the ball before he even had the chance to go through his progressions. Although that play helped seal gang greens first win, it was the performance of their quarterback that really grabbed the spotlight.

After beating mono that sat him out for the past couple of weeks, it was clear that Darnold was determined to light a spark in what was a nonexistent offense. The 22 year old gave Jets fans something to be excited about by not only scoring more than one touchdown, but also having long sustaining drives. Including their last offensive series where they got into field goal range that eventually ended in a field goal, that allowed them to go up by 8. He did have a little rust that had to be shaken off a bit which was expected, but overall it was an excellent performance from the second year quarterback

Darnold finished the day completing 23 out of 32 passes for 338 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception that came in the 3rd quarter. The pass was intended for Jamison Crowder at the Dallas 6 yard line, to which it was a bad read by Darnold. But when you look at how he performed, he not only looked great but the rest of the team looked completely different in a good way. The offensive line gave the quarterback time, the receivers were getting open, and Le’veon Bell looked sharp as well. The defense wasn’t even on the field for the majority of the game like they were previously.

The Jets next game will be on Monday night where they take on the undefeated Patriots at MetLife stadium. Not only will they look to keep their momentum going, but should be getting back CJ Mosley and Chris Herndon. This could be shaping up to be an exciting game for both these teams.
