Not the kind of start you wanted to see from this Jets in terms of their offense today, as the Jets lose their season opener to the Buffalo Bills by a score of 17-16. They say that the games in September are the games you try not to focus on because this is the time of year where teams are getting in a feel for games that are actually meaningful. It sure seemed needed another week or so to get adjusted to everything because the offense looked slow from start to finish. The uninspiring offense just had 223 yards total with only 155 yards through the air, it didn't seem like the offense was ever going to get across the opposite side of the 50 yard. Sam Darnold didn't have a strong outing as he was inaccurate at times some of it was due to not enough time in the pocket, the receivers not getting any separation, and even his own mistakes.
The only bright side was Le'veon Bell who looked like his old self after not playing in over a year, scored the only touchdown on the team and even got the two point conversion. He only had 60 yards on the ground, but every carry was him running hard and from it seemed like a couple of yards turned into 5 to 6 yards. Jamison Crowder also had a big day as well, catching 14 passes for 99 yards as he was what we thought the slot receiver would be and that was an added security blanket for the second year quarterback.
Special Teams was one of the teams strongest spots on the field last year but now they are going to need to find a 4th kicker as new kicker Kaara Vedvik missed the PAT and a field goal before going into the half. They were all chip shot ones too, which leaves Jets fans wondering why they couldn't just pay Jason Myers the money he wanted after making the pro bowl during last season.
Leading up to the major implosion in the fourth quarter, the defense played very well today generating four turnovers against the Bills. Two interceptions and two fumbles, one was a pick six by CJ Mosley who had a very big game for his debut. Mosley proved to be the vocal point of that defense not just in the running game but also in the passing game as well.
The Jets have to get the offense figured out and maybe find some depth players on defense because they have Cleveland coming to town on Monday night with New England the week after. Even though Cleveland got blown today by the Titans, they still have talent around that team including two very good receivers going up against a very bad Jets secondary.
