There hasn't been too much bright spots this season if there has been any at all, but coming Sunday there just might be something to be excited about for both teams as the New York Jets take on the Buffalo Bills for their second meeting this season. The two teams are having a disappointing season so on paper this doesn't have a game of the week type of feeling, but what this game will show us is the potential rivalry between two quarterbacks who hope to bring a championship to these franchises. That's right, both rookie Sam Darnold and rookie Josh Allen will be squaring off for the first time this season after missing the first game due to an injury.
Both these two rookie quarterbacks have the chance to develop a noteworthy rivalry in a AFC east division that has been dominated by the New England Patriots for over a decade, so maybe this teams can make this division interesting again. Darnold was selected 3rd overall in the 2018 NFL draft by the Jets, while Josh Allen was taken four slots behind Darnold at 7 by the Bills and although he is still considered a project quarterback, he plays the game with a chip on his shoulder.
"He is a competitive player" according to Bills OC Brian Daboll, a quarterback with a strong arm and has the ability to run with the ball if given the opportunity. Not to mention that he provided a spark for a Bills offense that has been struggling for the first half of the season and he has been a part of it before he got hurt. But when he returned to the lineup, the Bills scored 24 points against the Jaguars and almost had a comeback win against the Dolphins.
On the other side, the Jets have been constantly going through frustration after frustration, most recently after blowing a 16 point lead over the Tennessee Titans last week. Not to mention they only scored three offensive touchdowns in five games, and just got a takeaway for the first time in five weeks. Darnold was too on and off like Allen where he showed flashes of being a good quarterback and then the flashes that make us realize that he is a rookie and will make those mistakes. But maybe he can be the spark this offense needs just like Allen was with the Bills.
The Jets are going to be without linebacker Darron Lee who just got a four game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy and could also be without Crowell as he has been battling wit a toe injury. While the Bills could be without wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie and has lost cornerback Terron Johnson for the season with a shoulder injury.
