The New York Jets look to open the season on Monday Night Football heading into the Lions den at Ford Field. With their rookie quarterback at the helm, and new leadership calling the plays on the offensive side at the ball, plus names like Muhammed Wilkerson no longer on defense, it certainly makes sense that they’re 6.5 point underdogs heading into Monday’s matchup. However, to me one of the best bets you can make this week is on the New York Jets to beat the spread against the Detroit Lions, who for my money is one of the most overrated teams in football. Starting with their run game, Blount is an addition that has some potential goal line value but he never has been a back to consistently carry the load. And while I think rookie Kerryon Johnson is interesting, I don’t feel this one two punch is intimidating at this time. Addressing the injuries, I believe the Jets can survive without Marcus Maye for a game defensively. Offensively Kearse will be missed but it does give players like Pryor and Enunwa to make their comebacks early. Enunwa is on my short list of players returning from injury poised to make a big impact. The Jets have a very formidable one two attack at running back in Powell and Crowell. I believe that Crowell will be able to fill in the role that Chris Ivory had a few seasons ago and bring this team back to having a consistent run game. Allowing Powell to be more of a receiving third down back that he thrives in being. As for facing Matthew Stanford, this much improved Jets secondary has the chops to play against Golden Tate and company. Jets outside linebackers Lorenzo Mauldin and Jordan Jenkins need to up the pass rushing presence but I believe they’re up to the challenge All in all, I think this game will come down to one big play from Sam Darnold regardless of outcome. The rookie will either win or lose this game. I think he’ll show up in the big moment. New York Jets open the season 1-0 with a final score of 24-20
