Eagles Training Camp Update: One Week Down by Ryan Neal

It’s been a week or Eagles football and in the week a lot of headlines have been written. We’re here to break down the most important ones. To begin, training camp is just beginning to heat up. The pads are on and contact is finally been imitated. For some, the moment is too much, but there’s been a select few who have really stood out. We could not begin an Eagles training camp update article without mentioning quarterback Carson Wentz. At the start of camp, he was rumored to be a PUP list candidate which would have sidelined him to begin camp. However, he’s been a full go from the start and while he’s still being held back a little bit, he’s look better than before. He’s moving fluidly, his passing is accurate and it’s safe to say he’ll be on the field September 6th barring any setback. Another player who really stepped up so far has been rookie tight end Dallas Goedert. He looks the part and has been destroying the Eagles defense in the red zone. The likes of Rodney McLeod and Jordan Hicks are struggling to stop him. Having already Zach Ertz in the roster, Goedert adds another very scary weapon and a beast in the red zone. Goedert is a big addition to say the least. On the defensive side, the slot cornerback battle is heating up. Sidney Jones and DeVante Bausby are dogging it out for the spot. Both players have had the starting reps for three practices thus far. Obviously on paper, Jones is the likely candidate, but Bausby is giving him a run for his money. Another defensive note is the reemergence of Hicks. He suffered a pretty bad injury last season and like Wentz, he looks stronger and better than ever. He’s joining a linebacker crew who gained a lot of confidence last season. With a player of Hicks quality back on the defense, the Eagles are even better than before, which for the rest of the league is a scary thought. Camps just begun and the Eagles are looking hungry to repeat and competition is high. As we enter week two, watch out for a few of the key position battles to play out.
