Scouting Report: Minkah Fitzpatrick

This week for my scouting report, I decided to look at defense more specifically cornerback. The Jets haven’t produced an all star cornerback since drafting Darrelle Revis in 2007, and haven’t drafted a corner in the first round since 2013 when they took Dee Milliner (we all know how that went). If I was the Jets I would focus more on offense because they need a lot of help on that side of the ball, plus with free agency coming up you never know who maybe available. Due to recent events, I believe that Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler will test free agency after being benched in the Super Bowl. Personally, I think he is overrated but would be an upgrade and if they resign Claiborne, that would put Skrine back in the slot. So adding a top notch corner would not only add depth but it could bring this secondary back to the top. Therefore, I think Fitzpatrick would be a great addition to this team.

Fitzpatrick is a junior from the university of Alabama, he has been the most consistent and most impactful player to ever play for Nick Saban in the last decade. He has nine interceptions, 23 pass breakups, and has been awarded the Chuck Bednarik award for the most dominant defensive player. He has a tremendous motor, can play in the slot, play deep safety, and can even blitz or help in the run game on the line of scrimmage. Fitzpatrick has a great knowledge of the game, great character, and amazing versatility, he will be a highly coveted prospect when he comes to the pros. He has a good sense of where the ball is, if you watch the game against Texas A&M he recorded one interception and one forced fumble.

Overall, I think he will be a great addition to this secondary with his play to the ball, he reminds me of Jamal Adams and can be another steal for the Green and white. But it all comes down to how well they play their cards.
