Week 6 is underway as a race for first place is on the line, the New York Jets (3-2) take on their AFC east rival New England Patriots (3-2) in a game where we didn’t really expect it to be this exciting. We never thought the Jets were going to be in this position, heck we thought they were going to win 3 games all season long. Maybe it was luck or maybe they are a better team than we thought either way they are in a position to take first place. It will be tough though as they take on the defending super bowl champion New England Patriots as they too are 3-2. It might be just me but I think the Jets have a real shot to take it to New England and here is why.
The Patriots defense has been horrendous this season allowing 124 yards on the ground, 323 yards through the air and have allowed an average of 28.4 points a game. This will be a huge game for this Jets offense who last week was very fortunate enough to walk out of Cleveland with a win. But they have a chance to redeem themselves this week against a bad Patriots defense. Josh McCown has completed about 70% of his passes this season which is the second best behind Alex Smith, he needs to do the same this week if they want a chance to win and the running game has to take off as well. The Jets will be without Powell with, so Forte will be the starting running back and McGuire will back him up.
The defense will need to have a big game as well, last week they were able to create turnovers against the Browns and will need to do the same against Brady. The Jets have not gotten any production from their defensive line not named Kony Ealy, both Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams have yet to record a sack and had a hard time stopping the run. Tom Brady is reported to have an AC joint sprain in his shoulder so look for the Patriots to run the ball more. The Jets defensive line has to get to Brady if they want any chance of winning, otherwise he will pick apart that secondary.
