It's finally upon us. Week 1 of the NFL Regular season returns to us after what seemed like a very long football-less summer. Which means we here at Interstate of Green want to help you win your Fantasy Football championships. Here are 3 Starts and 3 Sits to consider heading into week 1. I'll do my best not to give anything obvious like anyone against the Jets.
Starts:
Rishard Matthews - Wide Receiver - Tennessee Titans:
For our listeners of Code Green on SB Nation Radio, it's really no secret that I love Rishard Matthews. This number 1 receiving option last year had 945 yards and 9 touchdowns for this breakout offense. Tennessee is a big time sleeper team for me to watch this coming season. And looking at their matchup against the Oakland Raiders, I expect this to be a bit of a shoot out and expect this 6 foot Touchdown catching machine to take advantage of a Raider defense that had the 27th ranked pass defense last season. And with no major additions outside of their 1st round draft pick, I don't expect them to improve much. I won't waste your time either by stating that I think Mariotta is a must start as well this week in a separate player, you get that one for free.
LA Rams Defense
Normally a matchup of the Rams versus the Colts i would be telling you to start any Colt Wide Receiver you can find. However, with Andrew Luck being ruled out, and a not so strong run game or offensive line. Without their franchise quarterback i'm just not a fan of the Colts. I believe the Defensive line of the Rams will prove problematic and will force Scott Tolzien into making poor throws that will be picked off.
Sam Bradford - Quarterback - Minnesota Vikings
While this is completely matchup based, I do like aspects of Bradford's game. He can be fairly accurate and with support is a better than average Quarterback. Throw in the fact that Jameis Winston and Jay Cutler got unprecedented bye weeks, and the before mentioned injury to Andrew Luck. And Bradford is a player playing a weak Saints D with the ability to stretch the field a little bit.
Sits:
Kareem Hunt - Running Back - Kansas City Chiefs
This one is more of a gut feeling that anything else. But i don't believe the Chiefs will matchup well against the reigning Super Bowl Champs. In addition to this rookie being thrust into a starting role after the injury to Spencer Ware he failed to get into the end zone at all during the preseason. Also outside of one game in 2014 where the Chiefs blew out the Pats, they generally have a very hard time against them. In addition the Pats gave up the fewest fantasy points per games against Running Backs last week.
Eric Ebron - Tight End - Detroit Lions
Sometimes I just have gut feelings, sometimes i have some decent numbers to support my opinions. Last season the Arizona Cardinals gave up the fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends. While Eric Ebron is poised to breakout this season... i don't think it happens Week 1. On the flip side i think one of these Lions Wide Receivers could have a big game.
Keenan Allen - Wide Receiver - Los Angeles Chargers
I have many reasons why i don't like Keenan Allen. His injury history, his inconsistent play. But for this week... it's his matchup against the Denver Broncos. This number 1 option will have to square off against Aqib Talib one of the best in the league. I never like offensive players against Denver. The Defense is truly that good.
