Throughout this preseason I will be coming up with a player who I think can make the final 53 man roster. This week the first player I will announce is wide receiver Charone Peake from the university of Clemson. This player to me shines like diamonds, whenever I hear how well these players have been performing he has been the topic of conversation. I personally think he can make the team and possibly be a contributor to the offense.
Peake was named the top 15 players in the country coming out of high school, and he possesses an outstanding combination of size, length and speed. He could've been a rising star but injuries and other players (Sammy Watkins, DeAndre Hopkins, and Martavis Bryant) held off his explosion on the scene until late in his career. In 2015, he had the best year of his career where he had 50 catches for 716 yards and 5 TDS in their championship run.
He looks part of a WR1. Plays with consistent lean and acceleration into routes. Big athlete with some shake underneath to separate in tight quarters. Controlled strider after the catch with ability to hit top gear quickly on wide receiver screens and crossers. He also ran a 4.37 in the 40 yard dash at the combine and is a hard worker in the classroom and scouts love his personal character. At 6'2, 209 pounds he was supposed to be a third rounder but he has extremely small hands for his size and is late to get his hands in catch ready position on intermediate throws.
Peake started camp a little shaky but has definitely build up his confidence and has been an eye opener for the Jets. Last week against the Jaguars, he had 4 catches for 45 yards with a touchdown and against the Redskins he had 4 catches for 32 yards. I think that the Jets got a late round gem with Peake and he could definitely make the 53 man roster and can be a main contributor to this team.
