Initial Reaction: Jets vs Patriots

Wow. This was a game that the Jets absolutely needed to have, and they came through with a gritty victory. A few takeaways from the heart pounding win over the rival Pats:

Fitzmagic: What can one say about the job that Ryan Fitzpatrick has done this season? Fitzmagic struck again at MetLife this afternoon, and he was razor sharp dicing up the bruised and battered Patriot secondary for 3 TD’s, 296 passing yards, and 0 interceptions. It seems like every time the Jets have needed a game winning drive this season, Fitz delivers. Oh yea, he needs 1 more TD pass to eclipse Vinny Testaverdes franchise record for TD passes in a season. Not too shabby.

Can’t stop Marshall: Brandon Marshall has been a freak of nature this year for the Jets. Today, he lived up to that label. Marshall tallied 8 receptions for 115 yards, and 2 TD’s. Brandon is on his way to having the greatest regular season of any Jets wide receiver ever. Better than Keyshawn, better than Maynard. He broke Al Toon’s single season reception record during todays game, and is eyeing the receiving yard record set by Don Maynard in 1967. He needs 58 yards to tie the Jet legend.

Bill slipped up: In overtime, Bill Belichick elected to kick the ball off to the New York Jets rather than receive. The patriot defense was missing key pieces going into this game, and the Jets weren’t having much trouble moving the ball on them for most of the game. The Jets fed off of Bill’s miscue. Calvin Pryor on the coin toss call: “My face kind of lit up, like: You’re really going to give us the ball?”

Win and they’re in: A few minutes before the conclusion of the Jets/Pats matchup, the team and fan base were blessed with great news: the Pittsburgh Steelers were beaten by the Baltimore Ravens. The Jets now control their own playoff destiny. Ahead for the New York Jets in week 17? A matchup with their old coach, Rex Ryan. Let the one sided trash talking begin.
