Offense
Quarterbacks: Sam Darnold, James Morgan. The first two spots are a no brainer, Sam is the franchise quarterback. The team also needs an experienced guy to back him up, the third spot is intriguing because this is where you have the luxury to develop another guy as a precaution. In this case I think rookie James Morgan gets the spot here. However when Flacco comes back from injury, I can see Morgan going to the practice squad.
Running backs: Le’Veon Bell, Frank Gore, La’Mical Perine: Bell is going to be the primary back, but from what we have been hearing at training camp is that the ageless wonder Frank Gore has been doing very well. Don’t be surprised if he shares some reps with Bell. As for the third running back spot, I can see it being Perine’s job to lose. He will be the team's future and the way he’s been looking, the future is bright.
Wide Receivers: Breshad Perriman, Jamison Crowder, Denzel Mims, Chris Hogan, Donte Montcrief, Lawrence Cager,Braxton Berrios: In light of what has been going on at camp with injuries, It would make sense for the Jets to keep at least seven receivers on the active roster. The one that stood out the most was Lawrence Cager, which is why I believe he will be in the active roster and Jeff Smith who was another standout will be on the PS.
Tight ends: Chris Herndon, Ryan Griffin, Trevon Wesco,Daniel Brown: The Jets will keep four tight ends on the roster, these three will be the front runners. Wesco and Brown are great run blockers, while Griffin and Herndon are your receiving tight ends who could help with the run as well.
Offensive line: Mekhi Becton, Alex Lewis, Connor McGovern, Greg Van Roten, George Fant, Cameron Clark, Jonothan Harrison, Josh Andrews: The two biggest issues that the Jets have in terms of positions is depth. The o line and receivers have been a problem, they signed a bunch of guys to see what fits and I doubt that they would go into the season without some reassurance.
Defense:
Defensive Tackle: Steve McLendon, Folorunso Fatukasi, Bronson Kaufusi, Kyle Phillips, I haven’t seen anyone really stand out on the DT front, but having that said though I do think they keep the same four as last year.
Defensive end: Nathan Shepherd, Henry Anderson, John Franklin-Myers, Quinnen Williams, Zabari Zuniga: The defensive end position will be something to keep an eye on, Williams and Anderson will be the focal point. They have to get to the quarterback.
Linebackers: Avery Williamson, Patrick Onwuasor, Frankie Luvu, Blake Cashman, Tarell Bashem, Jordan Jenkins, Neville Hewitt, James Burgess: I think the linebacker group might be the best out of the entire team despite not having CJ Mosley, the guys who stepped up last year are back. People think that the jets are in trouble because of not having Jamal and Mosley but this is the one position I fee the most good in.
Cornerbacks: Pierre Desir, Nate Hairston, Bless Austin, Arthur Malet, Brian Poole, Quincy Wilson: There are no big names at this position and that’s okay as long as they perform. JD traded for Wilson in the draft and picked up Desir during free agency who are not bad corners either. But they need to really step up.
Safety: Marcus Maye, Bradley McDougald, Ashtyn Davis, Bennett Jackson.
Punter: Braden Mann: Mann has been good during training camp and will be a key factor for the jets during the season.
Kicker: Sam Ficken: As much as I hate to say it, Ficken has looked sharp during camp. Maher was supposed to be the future kicker for this team after being successful in college. But in camp, he has been inconsistent. During the scrimmage he went 2-for-4 missing a 48 and 52 yarder per Cimini, while Ficken went 4-4.
