Who’s excited for the JV Interstate of Green bowl? I know it’s not the full-blown thing, we unfortunately have to wait until week 3 of the regular season for that. However, there are some interesting things that happen week 4 of the preseason, at least If you love these teams as much as we do at Interstate of Green. This will be my second year in a row watching this game live, and this is a preseason rivalry that is interesting because I feel like both fan bases respect one another and both teams respect one another. There isn’t much trash talking between the two. It’s just some healthy competition and in the preseason it’s when people are fighting for their roster spot. Here are my top 3 things to watch for in tonight’s matchup.
Tim Tebow’s Return to Metlife Stadium: Tebow Time has not been in the area since he was a part of the New York Jets in 2012. Tonight’s big story line for the Eagles has to be which Quarterback will stay on the roster, Tim Tebow or Matt Barkley. Barkley is arguably having his best preseason, however, Tebow has what I will call an X-factor, he has multiple uses besides being a backup quarterback. Tebow’s return to Metlife should be interesting, most Jets fans are disappointed he didn’t do anything in his brief time with the team, but he’s going to be fighting for a roster spot and will play his heart out
The Jets have a serious battle going on at Wide Receiver. The major names to watch in tonight’s game are Chris Owusu, Walter Powell Shaquelle Evans, and surprisingly Jeremy Kerely. They’re all fighting for a roster spot and I think all of them seriously have a shot of earning the spots up for grabs. But 2 of them more then likely will get cut, maybe even 3. They’re performance tonight against the Eagles will be a huge contributing factor to who stays and who goes.
The last thing to watch for is the bottom tear of the Eagles WR’s face off against the lower tear Jets CB’s. There are guys in both groups of players that have some great pro potential. The problem is there are too many players on both sides and cuts have to be made. Guys like Marcus Williams of the Jets and Rasheed Bailey of the Eagles are going to have to prove why they should be on the depth chart come week 1.
Overall yes this is just one more stepping stone to the regular season, however there’s still some fun things to watch out for as players try to earn their spot on the 53-man roster for the regular season.
