Who will be the starting QB? We will know Monday

On Monday, New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles will announce that he will decide on who the week 1 starting quarterback will be. We all expect that it will be veteran Josh McCown, however recent events indicate that there might be an upset into this highly drama quarterback competition (not really). Both Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg have been getting more reps at practice and have shown the progressions from the past years. Christian Hackenberg besides the horrible performance against the Detroit Lions where he only completed two of his six passes with a sack and fumble, he has shown that he can play in this league. As for Bryce Petty, he started off slow but really came along against Detroit.

Overall, I think that McCown should get the starting job because he has been in the league for a long time, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Hack or Petty get the call to be the opening day starter. Either way, it could be a downfall the way the coaching staff as played this out, They have given both of the young guys more reps than McCown. I understand that McCown is an intelligent player but even smart players need reps, so they are better off just going with one of the younger guys.
